ARTICLE 3:Cocoa & Other Food Alternatives. (By Ilka Bradshaw)

“People in the cold, dark countries of the north have long known about the restorative properties of cocoa. It is no accident that cocoa features as people’s favorite bed time or winter warmer in places like Switzerland, Finland, and Iceland. Cocoa can fight high blood pressure as effectively as many high cost prescription drugs. Drinking a mug of cocoa each night over a two-week period helped who are suffered from hypertension significantly reduce their blood pressure. The beneficial effects of cocoa come from the high level of polyphenols and flavanoids present in the drink’s chocolate ingredients. It is not environmentally sound to fly exotic fruits and vegetables from one part of the world to the other when there are perfectly good local alternates closer to hand. Apples provide the perfect example of this. Apples are one of the best sources of health-giving properties occurring in the natural world. And yet, consumption of apples is in decline in many countries as people search out more exotic and usually far more expensive fruits and vegetables. Often precisely because they believe these foodstuffs will bring them a big health boost unavailable from their more usual food fare.”
